Start from your app’s questions, not your tables. In AWS AppSync, you sketch the GraphQL schema that mirrors how your UI thinks: types, fields, and the queries, mutations, and subscriptions your screens need. Next, wire each field to a data source—DynamoDB for fast key-value lookups, Lambda when you need business logic, Aurora Serverless for relational joins, or any HTTPS service. Use single resolvers for simple reads/writes or compose pipeline resolvers to call multiple sources in sequence and merge results. Build and test in the AppSync console’s query explorer, or define everything as code with the Amplify CLI, CDK, or CloudFormation. Generate strongly typed models for TypeScript, Swift, or Kotlin so your components call the API with confidence.
Add live updates where it matters. Create a subscription tied to a mutation (for example, onCreateMessage) and your clients will receive changes over a persistent connection without polling. Use this pattern for chat, activity feeds, dashboards, or collaborative boards. For mobile and desktop apps that go offline, drop in Amplify DataStore. Interact with local models through simple save/query/observe calls; DataStore queues changes and synchronizes when the network returns. Choose a conflict strategy (auto-merge, optimistic concurrency with versions, or custom Lambda resolution) so edits from multiple users stay consistent. more
